At the regional MathCOUNTS competition, the Hudson Middle School team did tremendously well. The students earned 3rd place in an extremely rigorous, competitive competition with 20 schools across the area. East Woods Elementary School again continued to rank high in the international Math League competition.
This year, we had 87 East Woods students participate in the contests. In 4th grade, the school placed 28th overall out of 705 schools across North America. One student, Riya Hegde, placed 69th out of all of the 4th grade students.
In 5th grade, East Woods placed 41st out of 906 schools that competed in the contest. Additionally, Margaret Chen led Hudson by placing 135th overall.
Both girls were invited to Math League’s annual summer math camp for top scorers. We are very proud of everybody who participated, and are looking forward to another great year next year!
The thirty-fourth (34th) annual Akron area MathCOUNTS competition was held Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at the University of Akron Student Union. The Hudson Middle School team of David Li, Hannah Ma, John Main, and Jack Vogel won 4th place in a competition against 14 middle school teams totaling 100 students from Medina, Portage, and Summit counties. Congratulations Team!
East Woods’ fourth graders placed 37th out of 714 schools worldwide, and its fifth graders placed 35th out of 924 schools worldwide.
East Woods also had two individual top fourth grade scorers. Margaret Chen placed 37th, while Samuel Vogel placed 159th out of all of the fourth grade students worldwide.
Additionally, Leo Bangayan and Anthony Yuhos tied with a score of 27, placing 180th out of the over 50,000 students who took the fifth grade contest internationally.
We are very proud of the exceptional work and significant accomplishments of all of our students, and look forward to another great year next year together!
