2021 Math League Registration Now Open!

Click here to sign up for the 2021 Math League contest, and also access the practice tests! The contest will be on Wednesday, May 19th, at 9:10 am at East Woods. This year, students are also able to take it online using a home computer on this same date (May 19th).

East Woods has consistently been a top-scoring school since we started offering this competition — lets keep that going this year!

We have a [NEW] computer science class, where students will learn computer science fundamentals while learning to code in Java! We also have a math club for middle school students looking to continue to prepare for future competitions.

We have a math club for middle school students with prior MathCOUNTS instruction looking to participate in the MathCOUNTS competition this February [here], as well as a program for middle school students looking to gain a solid math foundation to participate in future MathCOUNTS competitions [here]. Note that interested students in both classes may be eligible for the MathCOUNTS competition this year due to new competition policies and COVID-19.

New Program: MathUP BACK-TO-SCHOOL Camp

We are pleased to announce a new offering: a MathUP back-to-school camp. The camp will provide 3 days of virtual instruction in accelerated middle school math concepts to prepare students for their future math endeavors, including future math classes, competitions, and even standardized testing.

2020 MathLeague Results

We are very pleased to announce that East Woods Elementary placed 18th out of 536 schools in the 4th Grade Contest and 17th out of 690 schools in the 5th Grade Contest! We also had six students place in the top ~220 students worldwide, three in each grade!

Amazing job, students, especially in the virtual format due to COVID-19! Thank you to all of our parents and the East Woods teachers for their help in facilitating the competition!

Akron Children’s Museum Partnership: Soapbox Derby Math Camp

We have entered into an exciting partnership with the Proyecto Raices organization, a group that works with Latin American youth in the Akron area, and the Akron Children’s Museum.

On the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of August we will be using measurements to help students create soapbox vehicles that have the optimal dimensions for fast fun!

Hudson Hub Highlights Middle School MathCOUNTS Team

At the regional MathCOUNTS competition, the Hudson Middle School team did tremendously well. The students earned 3rd place in an extremely rigorous, competitive competition with 20 schools across the area. One of the students, Margaret Chen, also placed in the Top 10 individually across the whole competition. Please see the below Hudson Hub Times article about these students:

We were so happy to have so many students that registered for the math league competition this year, and even more excited about the amazing results!
